Capcom VP: I'm not sure how Smash Bros. couldn't be considered a fighting game

Kind words or simply a matter of truth?

Capcom Vice President, Christian Svensson, spoke to members of the Capcom-Unity forums recently. One member asked if Svensson considered the Smash Bros. series to be a real fighting game franchise.

The Smash Bros. series started in 1999 with Super Smash Bros. for N64. Melee succeeded it for the Gamecube in 2001 and Brawl followed in 2008 for the Wii.

See what Svensson had to say about Smash Bros. below:

"I'm not sure how it couldn't be considered a fighting game for all of the reasons raised above. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's probably a duck.

That said, whether it makes for good fodder for a competitive scene, that's not anyone else's place to say other than the players that play it themselves."
