Killer Instinct to run in 720p and 60 FPS

Originally thought to be in 1080p, Killer Instinct is actually running in 720p to maintain 60 frames per second. Get more details inside.

It's HD but it's not 1080p.

Killer Instinct lead producer Michael Willette and design director David Verfaillie spoke with Gaming Bolt to discuss the game. When the question was brought up regarding the game's resolution and frames per second (FPS), the response was this:

“Technically we are running at 720p and 60 FPS. 60 FPS is another pillar of the project. Anything added to the game that doesn’t allow us to run at 60 is removed or optimized. Nothing would be more frustrating than need pixel perfect accuracy at anything below 60. It would feel sluggish and unresponsive.”

Fernando's POV: It's a little concerning to me that we just got done with the supposed 720p era (sub-HD in reality) for console gaming and yet games that are coming out for the Xbox One and PS4 have either been confirmed to be 720p and 60 FPS or 1080p and 25-30 FPS. It's obvious with fighting games that 60 FPS is the standard and will be in this coming generation but if developers are already struggling to hit that mark then it should be a cause for concern.
