Street Fighter x Tekken: 50 gems? 100 gems? Capcom doesn't think so

The latest blog on Capcom-Unity indicates that the amount of gems in Street Fighter x Tekken (SFxT) may be well over 100.

"By the way, do you think the total number of Gems is 50? 100? Hmm, I don’t think so… Tons of Gems are in preparation! The best part is still to come!"
Gems ... they're everywhere!

In case you've been living under a rock for a couple of weeks, the gems system for SFxT was first introduced at this year's New York Comic-Con. This system features in-game power-ups and allows you to customize your fighting styles.

Confused?

Capcom community manager Seth Killian to the rescue:

"It has gone in the way I was worried it might, with a lot of confusion. The original presentation, by opening the door, left more questions unanswered. I don't think there's any combination of gems which will help a weak player beat someone who's much stronger than them. Auto-block has, in particular, sent people into a tizzy because it's like, can't you just block everything? Well, yes, but it requires meter from your bar. You have the option to not choose any gems, if you want. The entire game is built around the gems, and there will be no 'No Gem' mode in the game"
This was an attempt to clear the air on the gems controversy. At the time of the announcement, Capcom called the new system "revolutionary." It's been anything but that to some fans who still believe the game closes the gap between beginners and experienced players.

Only time will tell if the fears of longtime fans will be realized.
