[UPDATED] AE 2012 set for Steamworks transition on May 30, DLC should carry over to Steam version

Capcom is getting head start on moving one of their PC titles from Games For Windows Live to Steamworks. Get all the details inside.

UPDATED: Capcom recently updated their announcement to reveal that all DLC should carry over to the Steam version, but not the GFWL version.

It isn't easy saying goodbye ... well in this case it is.

ComboFiend took to Capcom-Unity to reveal Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition 2012's (AE 2012) transition to Steamworks for the PC version. The move will be happening this Friday (May 30). The Games For Windows Live (GFWL) enabled version will still function normally for the "foreseeable future."

GFWL will be shutting down on July 1. Since AE 2012 was under the online service, a transition was necessary sooner or later. The bad news is, DLC will not be carried over to the GFWL version in the transition. This includes paid and free content.

Here is what you will have to do to get the Steamworks version of AE 2012:

"1. You bought Super Street Fighter IV AE for Steam.
  • On May 30, 2014, the transition from GFWL to Steamworks will happen, and your GFWL enabled game will still function as normal for the foreseeable future.
  • You will automatically be able to download the Steamworks version of the game via the Steam client for free. Once you boot up the new version of the game, it will prompt you to copy over your GFWL save data. Select “YES” and you’ll be ready to go!
 2. You bought Super Street Fighter IV AE for Games For Windows Live (retail package version).

  • On May 30, 2014, the transition from GFWL to Steamworks will happen, and your GFWL enabled game will still function as normal for the foreseeable future.
  • You will be able to receive the Steam/Steamworks version of the game simply by inputting your original GFWL product activation code into the “Activate a Product on Steam…” option in the Steam client.
    • i.      Customers can find their GFWL activation codes on the back of the instruction manual that came with the retail package.

  • Code Redeem Process:
    • i.       Launch the Steam client software and log into your Steam       account.
    • ii.      Click the Games Menu.
    • iii.     Choose Activate a Product on Steam...                                        iv.     Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the process. Once you’ve successfully redeemed your code, you will be able to download the Steamworks version of the game.
Once you boot up the new version of the game, it will prompt you to copy over your GFWL save data. If you select “YES” the game will copy over the latest save file. Make sure that’s the one you want before going through the process!"
